Paid Content is Ultimate Career Path for Brothas and Sistas This Decade

Based on our research, Black content creation is the best career to pursue this decade. We are in a pandemic era where we have been socially engineered by politics to social distance ourselves from each other and not be as personal and close up with interactions. Many people are reflecting and realize they do not like their job, they do not like the life they were living and the fake friends and family they had to tolerate. Folks want to break free and do something different.

Our research into paid content, especially in overseas markets realizes how big and expansive of an opportunity there is. What we are seeing is a cultural shift that is slowly moving. First, we have an existing generation that focuses on corporate mass media to tell them what to think about something, like how to feel about Russia and China or liberalism or conservativism. Today with bloggers, podcasters, video publishers there is no “audience” there are people with their own taste in content that reflects their personal lifestyle and choices.

If we look at Black media, we had a lot of gatekeepers that tried to focus on their bougie elite circle instead of promoting the diversity of content. If someone Black in North Carolina like the music scene in Philly, the corporate Black media like Radio One could not accommodate that individual and will play Beyonce all day long. The same with someone from Chicago in Atlanta and Dallas that grew up on the Chicago house music scene – there are gatekeepers and controllers trying to force up to listen or consume a limited view, a limited number of Black media they must approve of in a boardroom somewhere.

There is a massive opportunity in Black content creation this decade for the reason we have been suppressed by corporate Black media outlets trying to tell me and you what is acceptable content consumption. A lot of us have our own voice and our own story that others want to hear. This is again, why I thought Blavity was a joke because they came on the scene pulling the same fake central planning Black corporate media nonsense in a landscape where self-publishing rules. The real Black consumer is going to want to pick and choose content based on their lifestyle.

The Black community has a massive range of topics and lifestyles. Topics like moving from Chicago and Detroit, dating, cooking, being on parole, raising Black children, medical and more. These topics also come from a wide range of personal perspectives if the publisher grew up in Africa and immigrated, if they are young or middle-aged, or if they grew up privileged or underprivileged. The consumer will match who they are to the specific content creation because they want to consume new media that relates to their lifestyle and choices. This is a major paradigm shift and that is a major economic opportunity.

I think the current landscape is not efficient or short for Black content creators. Social media is designed for short-attention spans to get people engaged at scrolling for something new. YouTube, Medium, and other platforms are censoring, throttling and defunding content especially if there is a Black person speaking too much truth to power that shakes the foundation of White Privilege structures. Look at how they act towards Critical Race Theory, trying to pass laws and stuff. We need better and more engaging platforms that can accommodate Black lifestyles without someone saying “boot them off” or trying to cancel someone they find objectionable. Most Black content is not targeted by cancel culture because it’s offensive – they are being targeted because they speak truths that some don’t want to hear or be told.

The next Black media platform is not going to be some bougie clown that dresses eccentric nor some broke fish-sandwich eating writer at the Root or Black Voices. The next platform is going to be what we are pursuing, a stream of content that will reflect a person's choice and taste using matching algorithms and real-time feedback.

With that said, we are advising all Black folks to recognize this Golden Era of establishing our voice, our story and begin to focus on creating paid content as a professional endeavor. We will contribute on our side to create platforms to handle paid content platforms. This is not only e-books or articles or podcasts but also handles digital distribution and digital rights of videos, advertising, and music streaming. The days of platforms of Blavity trying to peddle clickbait content are over, this is the era where you will be the voice for the people to listen to and relate to.
